The village of Apollonas on Naxos hosts an annual Fisherman’s Fest on June 28. The fest begins with vespers service at Agios Ioannis, next is a celebration with live traditional music featuring some of Naxos’ leading artists.
Naxos’s patron saint, Agios Nikodemos Agioritis, is honored in main town, Events culminate in the litany of the holy icon and is also celebrated with a traditional folk fete on the same day in the village of Glinado.
Naxos’ now famous Potato Fest is held every August with great success at Kapares position, Agia Anna. Thousands of people of all ages, both locals and visitors, are drawn to the fest to devour the island’s potato-based recipes, made using locally produced potatoes and cooked with devotion and imagination.

August 15: A big fest takes place on the Day of the Assumption of the Virgin (Panagia) in all of Naxos, on August 15. The event, which takes place at the port and attracts pilgrims from the nearby Small Cyclades, includes food and dancing to the tune of live music till the early morning hours. August 15 is Greece’s second most important religious holiday after Easter.
The Naxos Wine Fest offers visitors a great opportunity to try Naxos’ local wine, accompanied by delicious assorted small dishes (meze or mezedes in plural), mostly fish and seafood, all topped off by dancing to live music performed by local artists. Get ready to be bare foot since the event includes foot pressing of grapes at a traditional wine press, as well as a speech on local vineyards so that, besides wine tasting, visitors may be informed about the unique qualities of Naxos wine.
On September 24 attend a beautiful celebratory fest honoring the church Panagia Myrtidiotissa, built on an islet, in the middle of the harbor and the mariners of the island.
At the end of September the preparation of Raki takes place. The locals fest for that with a celebration known as Rakitzo.
